Frequently asked questions of people looking to start their career with Tegrity Insurance
- Is this an hourly job or a business?
This is 100% a business that you own and that is yours. You merely work through Tegrity to receive training, support, guidance, leads, and a CRM to help you build and grow your business. You work with us, not for us.
- Where can I work from?
This is not an office-space job where you need to come in, go to your cubicle, and talk about having the Mondays-at-the-office blues around the water cooler. LOL.
It’s pretty much up to you! Anywhere on Earth is where you can choose to work from, as long as you have an internet connection, a computer, and a headset. All you need is an insurance license, internet, a headset, and a computer, and you are good to go!
The owner has personally worked most of the last 20 years in the Philippines, but has also worked in Europe for up to six months at a time, and from the Kenai River bank in Alaska to just about everywhere in between.
- Is this another one of those get-rich-quick pyramid scams?
NO! Selling insurance is as far from a get-rich-quick scam as you can get. In fact, it is one of the oldest professions on Earth and has been going and growing ever since the 1500s.
With over six centuries under its belt and continuing to get bigger every year, even AI won’t be able to take over this business. However, getting rich does happen a lot, and insurance sales has more millionaires than any other profession. Retiring in 10 years while still having a six-figure income coming in is very doable.
Selling insurance is also great in both strong economies and during recessions.
- Do I need a license to sell insurance?
YES! You must carry at least one state insurance license to be able to work at Tegrity. This entails reading and learning the rules and regulations of the state where you live, then going to a state-approved facility to take the test.
Upon passing the test, you will be issued a license by the state. You then get appointments with carriers, and you are all ready to sell.
- How much money does it take to get started in the insurance business?
Although Tegrity doesn’t charge anything to join our brokerage, you will, at a minimum, need a computer, internet access, and the ability to pass the state insurance test.
Upon obtaining at least one state insurance license, you will also need E&O insurance, which is approximately $300 per year. If you have none of those things, you can expect to spend about $1,200 to become an insurance business owner. There is very little barrier to entry in the insurance industry.
- Is Tegrity a captive agency or a brokerage?
Tegrity is a brokerage, which allows us to do what’s right for our clients and offer many different products to find plans that meet our clients’ needs and budgets.
Captive agencies, such as State Farm and Allstate, limit agents to selling their company’s products. This can force an agent to sell a plan that may not work for a client’s needs because they have no other option.
At Tegrity, we like to sleep at night knowing that we work for our clients’ best interests and not for a single insurance company. This gives us the unique opportunity to truly create a WIN/WIN for our customers!
- Is this an over-the-phone or face-to-face sales position?
First and foremost, it’s your own business, so it’s a touch more involved than just sales. With that being said, it’s whichever you want it to be!
If you’re living on the beach in Bora Bora, you certainly can’t meet clients on a regular basis, so then it’s phone sales. If you love the town or city where you currently reside, you can book your appointments for face-to-face meetings if you so desire, or you can still do phone sales—even if it’s calling your next-door neighbor.
How you choose to do it is completely up to you. It’s your business, your choice on how you want to run it, and that’s just part of the freedom this amazing business offers you to live the dream!
- Why work with Tegrity Business Services?
We at Tegrity offer a completely proven, turnkey business to you. Literally, you don’t need to do or figure out anything on your own. It’s all given to you on a silver platter for you to learn, copy, and implement. It’s just that simple, and you can make over $100K in year one.
In addition, we also own our own call center in the Philippines, which no other company has. Lastly, we offer other non-insurance services every business needs, such as remote staffing and merchant accounts, which allows you to make even more money on each and every sale.
Our President leads from the front, and even with everything he must do in a day, he is still in the top 1% for health insurance production in the nation.
Plus, with our system, you spend 99% of your time selling insurance instead of having to do all the other tasks that need to be done, which are non-selling activities.
- Is there a salary, or is it commission-based?
Again, this is your business, and like any business, you get paid based on your sales. So, it is 100% commission-based with NO salary. This means your earnings are not limited and allows you to earn in the seven-figure range.
- Are there any additional incentives?
Yes. Besides working from anywhere, passive income, setting your own schedule, massive tax advantages, and unlimited income potential, if you do a good job, many of the carriers provide fully paid trips to world-class locations around the world, often at five-star hotels for both you and your spouse.
These trips mainly go to European destinations and can cost the carriers about $15,000 per couple. So even your yearly vacations can be free and paid for by various carriers if you so desire.
- Is there a high failure rate in the insurance industry?
Fortunately, YES! Why that is, is up for discussion, but it’s a great thing if you make it past your first year, as it only gets easier with each passing year and there is less competition, which means more money for you.
I have come to a conclusion after 27 years as to who is at fault for the failure rate. When I first started in 1999, there was no training given to me—just brochures and some leads. In addition, there was nowhere to get training. Back then, I would say it was 60% the industry’s fault and 40% the representative’s fault.
Now, with CRMs, automation, YouTube training, and general improvements in video training from carriers, I would say it’s 90% the representative’s fault and 10% the carrier’s fault.
We at Tegrity decided to turn it up a notch and make our system so turnkey and foolproof that, literally, a talking parrot could do the business. We can proudly say we put together the first system in which, if you don’t make $100K+, it is 100%, no questions asked, YOUR FAULT YOU DIDN’T SUCCEED!
- What exactly does Tegrity sell, and who is the target market?
This has to be the second reason people choose Tegrity over another brokerage: our product lineup is second to none!
We sell to literally EVERYONE, with both Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) products. We can cover every single American from one day old to 100 years old with at least one, if not more, of our products.
Our insurance products consist of individual, group, and travel health insurance. We also offer various life insurance products, Medicare, and annuities.
Lastly, we offer our B2B clients other valuable non-insurance products, including remote staffing and merchant account services. You can also make additional money on these products with your clients.
- How do I become successful in the insurance business if the failure rate is so high?
This is probably the easiest thing for us to tell you! It just takes two things.
Work smarter: This means following everything we tell you to do to a T. I’m talking zero deviation from the training—not even using different words or a different tone. Follow the training 100%.
Work harder than everyone else: The goal of this business isn’t to kill yourself by working 12-hour shifts. However, the first year is when people tend to fail at the highest rate, so going full throttle for at least one year will guarantee your success, assuming you also follow the training 100%.
Once you get over that hump, it’s up to you how much you want to pull back the throttle.
- Are there any formal educational requirements to sell insurance?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! You can be a preschool dropout and still become a millionaire in the insurance industry as long as you are coachable, willing to grind, willing to hustle, and hungry!
There is just one state exam you must pass, and that’s it. The owner barely passed the exam on his first try in Arizona with a 71% and, as mentioned before, is a top 0.001% national producer.
It is important to note that some states require an 80% minimum passing score.
- Why is selling insurance BETTER than selling real estate?
There are probably 100 reasons why insurance is better than real estate. I’ll list the top five to save you an hour of reading.
- Real estate has so many limiting factors. You are limited to your local area, and it is always face-to-face and super hands-on, which SUCKS! Insurance can be done over the phone. You can be on the beach in Hawaii selling to someone in Florida, then your next call can be to California. Insurance has unlimited inventory.
- Real estate is limited by the number of buyers, housing availability, interest rates, and other various factors. It usually creates a feast-or-famine type of environment. Insurance is always needed by everyone from one day old to 100 years old. Not everyone needs or wants a house, but everyone needs several types of insurance.
- In 2025, 70% of realtors didn’t sell a single home! Insurance is great in a red-hot or even a bad economy. It is one of the most steady and consistent products you can sell, other than food, coffee, or gas.
- There is no passive residual income in real estate. Once you sell someone a home, you get paid once and that’s it. We have 10 different products to offer our clients, and you get paid on them upfront and on an ongoing basis.
- The proof is in the pudding: there are more millionaires in the insurance industry than in the real estate sales industry.
- Can I build a team of agents under me at Tegrity?
The short answer is YES! However, we do suggest you get really good at selling and learning all the products yourself before you start building a team.
This process tends to take anywhere from one to three years, as it is much more respected to lead from the front.
That being said, Tegrity takes care of everything from onboarding to having leads available for your recruits, as well as all the training and CRM support.
- If insurance is so great and there are many millionaires, why isn’t EVERYONE DOING IT?
Just like with any occupation, you need to have the skill set to be able to do it.
A perfect example is NBA basketball players. They make millions putting a ball through a hoop. That doesn’t sound that hard, so why isn’t everyone in the NBA? Well, just being tall is only one facet of the many things you need to be able to do that job. There are many more tall people who are not in the NBA than there are in the NBA. You then also have to have elite athletic abilities and be tall. Very few people have both in this world.
The same goes for insurance. Even if you are a fantastic salesperson, you can still fail miserably! Why? Well, it’s a lot more than just selling insurance to be successful in the insurance business.
Can you manage your time well? Are you willing to dial your phone relentlessly day in and day out? Can you stomach the fact that you start every Monday at $0 and, if you don’t sell that week, even if you worked 60 hours, you can still be at zero income at the end of that week?
A lot of the awesome things about insurance are also the exact reasons people fail out!
Some would say it’s a double-edged sword. Do you really have what it takes and the discipline to be your own boss?
All of these questions get answered really quickly once you get into the industry and everything gets real in a hurry as to whether you are willing and able to do what you have to do to make it.
The first year is the hardest, like in most businesses, so if you can push hard, work your ass off, and make it happen, it only gets easier as you go—assuming you are capable of learning from your mistakes and not repeating them.
- Is the insurance business going away because of Artificial Intelligence?
I don’t believe so, and here is why:
First off, you need a license to sell insurance, and that requires a Social Security number, fingerprints, and physically appearing to take the state licensing examination. Last I checked, AI doesn’t have any of those requirements.
Will AI help those who use it increase insurance sales? Absolutely. Those who utilize it correctly will vastly outperform those who do not.
I guess the better question to ask is: If AI replaces everyone else, will they have money to buy insurance?
